Tweet-Up with Seesmic’s Sukhjit
If you’re not on Twitter, you may not have heard: a member of the Seesmic team is in Honolulu, and several local geeks are turning out to welcome her and enjoy some terrific tech talkstory. Sukhjit, who hosts the Seesmic video show “Unboxing,” will be at the Aloha Tower Marketplace food court at 5 p.m. today, and anyone interested in the web, social networks, and online video is invited to meet her.
Launched in October, Seesmic was dubbed “Video Twitter,” offering shortform video posts organized into threaded conversations. The service does considerably more, however, and has even evolved into a platform for video comments on blog posts and websites. If you want to know more about it, be sure to come down to the Honolulu waterfront before sunset.
Twitter, the mobile-friendly microblogging social web app, has proven itself to be a fantastic way to quickly organize events. Over two dozen people turned out to meet Guy Kawasaki earlier this month, for example, despite less than a day’s notice from the gathering’s first mention by Kawasaki disciple L.P. “Neenz” Faleafine. These “flash meetups,” dubbed “tweet-ups,” can range from two friends connecting on a whim for lunch (I’ve enjoyed great company several times by merely posting my lunch plans to Twitter) to massive, spontaneous parties (like those that sprouted up at SXSW last year).
